To immerse community expertise into academic research and public policy, the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies and Energy (ITS),  the Energy and Efficiency Institute (EEI), the Center for Regional Changes, in collaboration with members of the Transportation Equity and the Environmental Justice Advisory Group (TEEJAG), are launching the Environmental Justice Fellowship program (EJF). This fellowship program will benefit participating fellows, the communities they serve, and the university researchers they engage with.

A team of transportation and policy experts from the University of California released a report today to the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) outlining policy options to significantly reduce transportation-related fossil fuel demand and emissions. Those policy options, when combined, could lead to a zero-carbon transportation system by 2045, while also improving equity, health and the economy.

On February 9, the Biden-Harris administration named Austin Brown as senior director for transportation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Brown has been the executive director of the University of California, Davis, Policy Institute for Energy, Environment and the Economy since 2017. His leadership has positioned the institute as a respected authority on clean energy and sustainable transportation, and as a broker of strong connections between the research and policy communities at the local, state and national levels.

The UK has set forth a new goal of banning sales of conventional fossil fuel vehicle sales by 2030, and only allowing zero-emission vehicles from 2035. This is a part of a 10 point plan by the UK to induce what they have been calling a new ‘green industrial revolution’. This is an acceleration of their previous goals to ban sales of fossil fuel cars, which was previously set for 2040.
