Policy analysis and engagement is built into research projects from the onset, and the extent to which research is communicated to policy makers is increased. The academic community understands how and why to better engage in the policy process.

Proactively seek opportunities to articulate the value and importance of research-informed policy to the academic community and to policy makers.
When possible, work with principal investigators at the onset of research projects to ensure they have the right policy connections and the right support to make those connections.
Provide templates, instructions, editing, and guidance to faculty and researchers on how to write a good policy brief. 
Provide experiential training for students and researchers so that they can shape their research to have higher value in the policy process.
Seek project funds that support undergraduate and graduate student time to engage in and learn from policy-oriented research and engagement.
Track policy outcomes resulting from (or related to) research translation and engagement and share these successes with the academic community.
